Well Its apparent I have not devoted any sort of time to posting my wods or nutrition habits to this blog as of late. I suppose an update is due. Since my last written post, I have been determined to reduce that body fat percentage. I have also subscribed to a more rigorous fasting schedule. I have further modified my daily macros so I can view some sort of progress.
I have incorperated some 36-48 hour fasts in my weeks. On long fast days there is not as much rigorous physical activity. I will go for a walk though. On days when my fasting schedule is normal, I am still on a 15/9 schedule with meals being eaten around 3 in the afternoon. I was browsing the #fasting tag and came across some poor unfortunate posts about girlsstarving themselves and calling it fasting. Please, dont make people think that fasting is part of an eating disorder. I am choosing to deactivate my digestive tract because there is a ridiculous amount of energy our bodies need to use to simply break down the food. The energy gets used in other more productive ways when you are in a fasted state. Also there are numerous studies that encourage fasting. Look up fasting and mice or fasting and rhesus monkeys. It appears as though fasting can increase longevity. Think about it, with big food dominating more and more of our choices, they are also encoruaging us to get FAT and disgusting. I want to be healthy and look like im 30 when I am in my 70s. It can happen with proper nutritional choices made now.
Humans are supposed to eat whole foods, not things that come in packages. We dont really even need sugary carbs either. This I say with a sort of paleo-y idea in mind. However, with the fasting schedule operating, it is necessary to take it a step further. Early, hunter-gather man did not enjoy 3 or more meals a day. He feasted when there was something that was caught during the hunt. So early man probably did not eat as many calories as we do today. Its suprising how much more clear you can think when theres not a bunch of insilun in your blood flowing around storing fat. Now I am actually enjoying some of my fat reserves during the fast. I am actually experiencing boredom for the first time in a long time, why? What do we do when were bored? Get a snack. Even healthy snacks like zuchinni slices. I am happy with my choice, especially because before a long fast, I load up on my glycogen stores with 200 extra calories. As of now I am in hour 27 of the 36 hour fast. I will eat breakfast whenever I wake up.
Now as for the modifications of the macros, I have further reduced my carb intake from 140 to 120 and increased my fat intake to 50 g. Protien has been reduced also, to between 126-130g. I am of the mindset that 1 gram of protien should be consumed per pound of lean body mass. I am striving for 1270 calories a daily basis. Ive been working hard for many many months and I feel like I should be seeing more drastic results, but there has been something not right about everything. Now I am committed and will not falter in this stretch of health.
As for as burning calories, I have missed many sessions at the box because I am becoming more jaded with the whole crossfit phenomenon. Especially the paleo lifestyle they subscribe to. Personal issues aside, the fact that I have to sign up and go only during certain hours blows. Im paying a shitton of money and I cant go when I want. A the class I like going to has turned into a “competition prep” class for people who want to train to compete. When I go back to work it will be unlikely that I will be able to go because I dont want to go at 530 pm. Thats too late to be getting home. Also, I keep getting hurt because they dont teach proper form. Lately Ive been watching olympic weight lifting and I keep getting inspired because I want to be able to do those lifts properly, and if I compare the techniques of the olymipic athletes to a crossfit athlete there is a clear and distinct difference. Crossfit teaches you the lifts inefficiently. If you cant get the weight above your head without stressing out your joints, you shouldnt be lifting that heavy. Thats not what it should be about. It should be about gaining strenth, not forcing it.
With that in mind, my new style of wod is partially crossfit based.I do like the timers and circuts we do, but I just need a more anatomical focus when I work out (like back, legs, or chest). I also enjoy the 15 min prior stretching we do. I also like warming up over a series of 25-30 min with 15 min of explosive lifting, followed by a fat burning interval session on the tredmill, all in an intermittent fasted state. Physically my body does look different, but quantitatively, my weight is the same. I will check my body fat percentage in a week to see if this is working better for my body.
